HP Assembly clears two legisaltions referred back by Guv

Shimla, Feb 16 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh Assembly on Monday once again passed the Amendment Bill seeking to extend the tenure of the Mayor and Deputy Mayor of the Shimla Municipal Corporation (SMC) from two and a half years to five years.
It is worthwhile to mention that the bill was referred back by Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla to conduct the election of Mayor or Deputy Mayor in Shimla Municipal Corporation, arguing that the amendments override the constitutional and legal provisions.
Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania informed the House that the Bill was referred back by the Governor for reconsideration. Reading out the observations made by the Governor, he stated that at the time of the Municipal Corporation elections, the tenure of the Mayor and Deputy Mayor was statutorily fixed at two and a half years.
