HP apple growers and farmers to join nationwide strike on Feb 12

Rohru(Shimla), Feb 7 (UNI) A block-level meeting of the Himachal Apple Growers Association (Seb Utpadaak Sangh) was held at Rohru on Saturday, drawing participation from executive members of the association’s village units on the nationwide call of various trade union belonging to farmers for a strike on February 12. The meeting reviewed the deepening challenges confronting farmers and orchardists in Himachal Pradesh and resolved to intensify collective action.
The meeting was chaired by CPI(M) state committee secretary Sanjay Chauhan, who said that farmers and orchardists were passing through a grave crisis. He expressed concern over the rising incidents of land evictions and house foreclosures, stating that these developments were pushing rural families into insecurity.
Chauhan also criticised the free trade agreements being signed by the Centre with various countries, terming them harmful to the interests of domestic farmers and apple growers.
