Himachal HC stresses scientific garbage disposal at Kasol

Shimla, Nov 14 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh High Court, in its order dated November 12, has placed strong emphasis on the scientific disposal of garbage in Kasol, observing that the State’s response to the persistent waste crisis remains inadequate despite months of judicial supervision, in a suo motu Public Interest Litigation.
Taking note of the latest status report submitted by the Deputy Commissioner, Kullu, the court recorded that the administration is now moving ahead with the diversion of 0.1982 hectare of forest land to establish a Solid Waste Management Site for the tourist-heavy region.
The Bench comprising Chief Justice G.S. Sandhawalia and Justice Jiya Lal Bhardwaj was informed that the Rural Development Department has completed the Forest Conservation Act (FCA) proposal for the site. Construction work for both the Solid Waste Management Plant and a new Material Recovery Facility (MRF) has commenced, with the project slated for completion within six months. The district administration is seeking corporate social responsibility funding to ensure timely execution.
