Himachal HC seeks State's reply on plea challenging toll collection on National Highways

Shimla, Dec 11 (UNI) The Himachal High Court has issued a notice to the state government on a petition questioning the legality of toll collection on several national highways in the state.
The division bench of Chief Justice Gurmeet Singh Sandhawalia and Justice Jia Lal Bhardwaj granted the government time to file its response. The matter will now be heard on March 7.
The petition, filed by Utansh Monga, contends that the state has been collecting tolls under the Himachal Pradesh Toll Act, 1975, despite national highways falling exclusively under the jurisdiction of the union government. The plea submits that the imposition of tolls is causing daily losses to commuters, transporters, and other service users.
