Himachal: Five held for illegal poaching of Himalayan tahr

Palampur, March 12 (UNI) Five persons have been nabbed for alleged case of illegal hunting of wild animal Himalayan Tahr in the upper region of Jiya near Palampur in Hiamachal Prradesh, a forest official said on Wednesday.
Divisional Forest Officer Sanjeev Kumar told UNI that five Himalayan tahrs have been hunted illegally. He said the Himalayan tahr comes under the category of protected wild animals under Schedule 1 of the Wildlife Protection Act.
He said the forest department team has nabbed five accused - four hunters and the driver of the vehicle in which the Himalayan tahrs were being taken after hunting. The vehicle was impounded. Gun cartridges and some sharp weapons have also been recovered from it.
