Himachal farmers reel under trauma as NHAI's 'Blind' four-lane construction leaves villages in ruins

Sarkaghat (Mandi), Nov 14 (UNI) Across Himachal Pradesh, farmers affected by the National Highways Authority of India's (NHAI) four-lane and highway projects are living through what they describe as trauma, displacement, and the slow destruction of their livelihoods.
At a state-level convention organised by the Himachal Kisan Sabha in Sarkaghat in Mandi on November 12, affected families narrated harrowing accounts, accusing NHAI of bulldozing through villages with a blindness that has shattered homes, fields, and water sources leaving people lamenting in what they call "blood tears."
From Mandi to Hamirpur, Solan to Sirmaur, every testimony carried the same pattern of distress. Mehar Singh of Kotli village said his land was taken for the NH, illegal mining was carried out on his property, and for three years authorities have not even demarcated the acquired portion. Compensation has not been paid, and he alleges intimidation by NHAI officials.
