High Court bars coercive action against Sonu Nigam

Bengaluru, May 15 (UNI) The Karnataka High Court on Thursday ordered that no coercive action be taken against popular singer Sonu Nigam in connection with the criminal case filed for allegedly insulting Kannadigas during a concert, provided he cooperates with the police investigation.
Justice Shivashankar Amarannavar passed the interim order on Nigam’s plea seeking quashing of the case. The Court directed that the final report filing be stayed until the next hearing and emphasised that no coercive measures shall be initiated against the singer if he cooperates.
In a significant relief to Nigam, the court exempted him from physically appearing in Karnataka for recording his statement. It permitted him to record his statement through video conferencing. Alternatively, if the police require his physical statement, officers can visit Nigam’s residence, with the singer bearing the expenses for such visits.
