Hemant govt ignoring model code of conduct in Jharkhand's urban areas: Marandi

Ranchi, Feb 9 (UNI) Former Jharkhand Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Babulal Marandi has accused the Hemant Soren-led government of failing to conduct urban local body elections on time and alleged widespread corruption.
Marandi stated that during the past six years, the Hemant government has worsened the condition of urban areas in Jharkhand.
He pointed out that the tenure of 15 municipal bodies ended in 2020, while the remaining urban bodies completed their terms in 2023. However, instead of conducting elections on time, the Chief Minister continued to run these civic bodies through administrators. According to him, this led to the establishment of a system marked by corruption and illegal collections.

Highest haul of contraband, inter-state drugs syndicate busted in Meghalaya

Shillong, March 6 (UNI) In one of the highest drug hauls in Meghalaya, the Anti Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) on Friday seized heroin and methamphetamine valued at approximately Rs. 51 crore in the drugs market
The ANTF of the Meghalaya police also busted an inter-state drugs syndicate by apprehending a 34-year-old man from Mizoram and 42-year-old woman from Manipur’s Moreh area on the India-Myanmar border involved in ferrying the narcotics.
