Heavy rainfall lashes Arunachal capital

Itanagar, May 14 (UNI) Incessant and heavy pre-monsoon showers continued to lash Itanagar, the capital of Arunachal Pradesh, throwing normal life out of gear.
The Itanagar capital region has been experiencing heavy rainfall since early Wednesday morning.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall in Arunachal Pradesh for the next two days, with isolated areas experiencing moderate to heavy rainfall for the last few days.
These persistent rains have raised concerns about potential landslides and flash floods in vulnerable areas. Residents have been advised to remain vigilant and avoid landslide-prone zones, as heavy rainfall can lead to temporary road blockages and damage to infrastructure.
Meanwhile, a monsoon preparedness meeting of Upper Siang held at Yingkiong under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Talo Jerang on Tuesday reviewed the border district’s monsoon preparedness status, besides focusing on identification of potential disaster-prone areas, coordination between departments for timely response, resource and manpower assessment, and public awareness.
During the meeting, the DC formally launched the District Disaster Management Plan 2025-26, developed to enhance the district’s disaster preparedness, response, and recovery capabilities.
The plan outlines the roles and responsibilities of various departments, coordination mechanisms, and resource mobilisation strategies to address both natural and man-made disasters, official sources said.
