Srinagar, May 27 (UNI) There is no letup in heatwave over plains of Jammu and Kashmir even as Pahalgam and Qazigund experienced the hottest day on Monday with the temperature soared to 28.6°Celsius and 34.0°C respectively breaking the previous highest record, throwing normal life out of gear, officials said.
Meteorological Centre Srinagar said the tourist spot of Pahalgam in south Kashmir recorded a maximum temperature of 28.6°C today, the second highest during the last 23 years. On May 23, 2000, Pahalgam had recorded 30.8°C, it said.
Qazigund on Srinagar-Jammu national highway also broke the 43-year-old maximum temperature today, the first highest maximum temperature so far at 34°C. The previous highest day temperature was recorded on May 31, 1981 at 33.6°C, the MeT office said.
