Health experts warn Trump admin health policies severely undermine global response systems post Ebola outbreak

Washington, May 21 (UNI) The US response to the growing Ebola outbreak in central Africa has triggered a fresh wave of warnings from public health experts regarding the Trump administration's global health policies, and how they will serve to weaken the world's ability to respond quickly to dangerous epidemics.
The outbreak, which has already resulted in nearly 600 suspected cases and 139 deaths, according to health officials, with infections reported in parts of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda and South Sudan, has become a major point of contention between Washington and the WHO.
As per health experts, the sweeping changes to America's global health infrastructure, including President Donald Trump's dismantling of United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the administration's withdrawal from the WHO, alongside cuts at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), could greatly undermine surveillance systems and delay outbreak detection in one of the world's most politically unstable and densely populated regions.
