Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Committee demands Land near Golden Temple for Sarai

Chandigarh, 7 August (UNI): The Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (HSGMC) submitted a formal demand letter to the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president today, requesting two acres of land near the Sri Harmandir Sahib corridor to construct a spacious sarai (inn) for Sikh devotees from Haryana.
The HSGMC chief sevadar, Jagdish Singh Jhinda, highlighted that Sikh pilgrims from Haryana often face accommodation shortages, leading to personal inconvenience and a sense of discrimination. “Discrimination against the Haryana Sikh sangat will not be tolerated,” he stated, emphasizing that the proposed sarai is not only a necessity but also a matter of dignity for the Haryana Sikh community.
Additionally, the HSGMC raised concerns over the SGPC’s practice of charging Rs 700 from elected Haryana committee members during their visits to pay obeisance, calling it an injustice to a democratically elected Sikh representative body. They demanded an immediate end to this practice.
