Panchkula, Jun 16(UNI) The Haryana Police have intensified its efforts to identify and verify illegal infiltrators residing in the state, with Gurugram Police launching a special verification drive in view of national security and law and order concerns. During the operation, 13 Bangladeshi nationals residing illegally in Gurugram were identified and will be deported following due legal procedures.
A team from the Crime Branch Sector-39 conducted a special checking operation based on specific intelligence inputs regarding Bangladeshi-origin persons allegedly residing illegally at construction sites and slum settlements in the city.
During the drive, police teams inspected various construction sites and slum clusters, verifying the identities and citizenship status of suspected individuals. The operation led to the identification of 13 Bangladeshi nationals residing without valid documents. Documents related to their Bangladeshi citizenship were also recovered during the verification process.
Police said preliminary interrogation revealed that the identified individuals had allegedly entered India illegally through the Kaliaganj border with the assistance of Bangladeshi agents and were living in Gurugram while posing as labourers. Authorities said all identified individuals will be deported in accordance with the law.
As part of the broader campaign, Gurugram Police are conducting document and identity verification at slum settlements, residential colonies, rented accommodations, industrial areas, and hotels. Intensive checking operations are continuing across multiple locations in the district.
The Haryana Police have appealed to citizens to immediately report any suspicious person or foreign national residing illegally in their area. Residents have also been advised to ensure police verification of tenants, domestic helpers, employees and workers engaged in hotels and commercial establishments.
People can share information about suspicious individuals through the emergency helpline number 112 or by contacting the nearest police station.
The police have also sought the cooperation of Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) and the general public in making the campaign successful, while assuring that public convenience will be maintained and that national security and public interest remain the top priorities.
Officials clarified that Indian citizens and foreign nationals residing legally in India need not be concerned about the drive and that no innocent person will be unnecessarily harassed. The police further warned that strict legal action would be taken against those found spreading misleading, false or fabricated rumours regarding the campaign.
