Haryana launches ₹2,738-Cr JICA-backed sustainable horticulture project

Panchkula, Jun 5 (UNI) Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Friday launched the ₹2,738-crore Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA)-funded Sustainable Horticulture Promotion Project and laid the foundation stone of the Haryana Agri Business and Cold Chain Centre (HACE), positioning the state for a major transformation of its agriculture and horticulture sectors.
The twin launches, held in Panchkula, were attended by Takeuchi Takuro, Chief Representative of JICA India, Takehiko Hayase, First Secretary (Food and Agriculture) at the Embassy of Japan in India, and British Deputy High Commissioner Alba Smeriglio.
Launching the project, Saini acknowledged that Indian agriculture today faces a convergence of serious pressures — climate change, erratic rainfall, rising temperatures, declining groundwater levels, shrinking landholdings, increasing cultivation costs and shifting market demands.
