Harshal Patel bags four wickets as CSK bowled out for 154 by SRH

Chennai, Apr 25 (UNI) Medium pacer Harshal Patel picked up four wickets as Sun Risers Hyderabad (SRH) restricted home favourites and five champions Chennai Super Kings to a modest 154 all out with a ball to spare in their IPL match between two bottom placed teams at the M A Chidambaram Stadium here on Friday night.
It was the same old story a CSK lost three wickets inside the power play, before Dewad Bravis provided some hope with a blistering innings.
But Harshal Patel, who bowled a nagging length with clever change of pace proved to be the stumbling block, nailing the key wickets of Bravis and M S Dhoni, as the home team lost wickets
at regular intervals and ended up finishing with a modest score.
There was no worthwhile partnerships though teenager Ayush Mhatre, Ravindra Jadeja and Bevis
got off starts, but failed to build on.
CSK scored just 27 runs in the last five overs to finish at 154 all out in 19.5 overs as Pat Cummins and left arm seamer Jaydev Unadkar provided admirable support to Patel picking up two wickets each, while Mohd Shami and spinner Kamindu Mendis scalped one wicket apiece to strangle the
CSK batters, despite a brief onslaught by Brevis.
Deepak Hooda, drafted into the side, hit a six and four towards the end to help team cross the
150-run mark.
Asked to bat first, CSK seeking resurrection to keep its frail hopes alive for a play offs having lost
six of the eight matches, lost Shaik Rasheed off the first ball edging pacer Mohd Shami to the slip cordon.
Teenage sensation Ayush Mhatre, however, showed positive intent punching two boundaries each
of Shami and SRH skipper Pat Cummins and then drilled Harshal Patel to the fence, even after
losing southpaw Sam Curran (9), promoted up in the order at Number three.
After a promising start, Mhatre too fell trying to clear the infield, as CSK lost three wickets in the power play reaching 47 for three.
Mhatre struk six fours in his 19-ball 30. All Roundra Ravindra Jadeja struck a four and a six in scoring 21 of 17 balls and departed at the half-way stage, before Dewal Brevis, who came in as replacement for injured skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad, provided the much needed thrust as CSK reached 100 in the 12th over.
After striking four sixers and a four in his innings of 42 in 25 balls, that gave the much need impetus
to the innings, he fell held at long off, thanks to stunning catch as Harshal Patel returned to pick up his second wicket.
There was further trouble as impact player Shivam Dube (12, 9 balls, 2x4) too perished in the 14th over as CSK seemed to have lost their momentum reaching 118 for six, with six overs remaining,
when the iconic skipper M S Dhoni walked in to join Deepak Hooda amid loud cheers from the packed stadium, hoping that he would unleash his old magic to take the home team to a fighting total.
The exit of Dhoni (6) saw a flurry of wickets falling in the death overs as CSK finished with a below par total, that needed an extra-ordinary effort by its bowlers to defend it.
