Hamas announces death of political bureau member Barhoum in Israeli strike

Beirut, Mar 24 (UNI) A member of the Hamas political bureau, Ismail Barhoum, was killed in an Israeli strike on the Nasser hospital in the city of Khan Yunis, the Palestinian movement said in a statement.
Earlier, the Gaza Health Ministry said that the Nasser medical complex in the Gaza Strip had been attacked by the Israeli army, and that at the time of the strike there were wounded and medical personnel in the building. According to Al-Aqsa broadcaster, at least five people were killed.
"The Islamic Resistance Movement of Hamas honors the memory of the martyr, brother Ismail Barhoum, a member of the political bureau of the movement in Gaza," the statement says.
According to the statement, Barhoum was killed in an Israeli strike that hit the Nasser hospital in the city where he was undergoing treatment.
On Saturday, another member of the Hamas politburo, Salah al-Bardaweel, was killed in an Israeli attack. His wife was killed along with him.
Earlier this week, Israel resumed hostilities in the Gaza Strip after a nearly two-month ceasefire. Senior officials in the Jewish state explained the need to resume the war by the fact that Hamas had refused to accept the American plan to extend the ceasefire and release Israeli hostages. The Israeli leadership has repeatedly emphasized that it would not accept the continued presence of Hamas in the Gaza Strip in any form. The Palestinian side, in turn, accused Israel of refusing to follow previously reached agreements and negotiate a final end to the war and the withdrawal of troops from the Strip.
