Haldia Dock Complex achieves new mark in cargo handling in Nov 2025

Kolkata, Dec 9 (UNI) Haldia Dock Complex (HDC) of Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port, Kolkata, achieved its highest-ever monthly container in November 2025, handling 21,691 TEUs (Twenty-foot Equivalent Unit), notching 48.97 percent of growth, compared to 15,231 TEUs handled in November 2024.
The higher handling capacity at HDC is attributed to an enhanced operational capacity planning, improved turnaround efficiency and seamless coordination among cargo-handling teams.
This new mark of cargo handling has surpassed recent records of 20,133 TEUs handled in January and 20,627 TEUs handled in September 2025, highlighting the port’s strong growth trajectory.
SMP chairman Rathendra Raman said “This historic performance reflects the unwavering dedication of our workforce and the remarkable teamwork displayed across the Haldia Dock Complex. I extend my sincere appreciation to Shri Samrat Rahi, Deputy Chairperson, HDC for his leadership and coordination in driving this achievement.
“We are deeply grateful to our trade partners and stakeholders whose trust and continued support strengthen our resolve. Together, we have once again demonstrated HDC’s capability as a vital contributor to India’s maritime progress,” Raman further added.
In shipping, TEU stands for Twenty-foot Equivalent Unit, a standard measurement for a ship's cargo capacity, representing one 20-foot-long shipping container (8ft wide, 8.5ft high). It simplifies logistics by providing a universal benchmark for measuring vessel size, terminal throughput, and overall containerized cargo volume, allowing for easier planning and coordination across the global supply chain. Two TEUs equal one FEU (Forty-foot Equivalent Unit).
