Greenland assumes chairmanship of Arctic Council - FM

Moscow, May 13 (UNI) Greenland, on behalf of the Kingdom of Denmark, has taken over the chairmanship of the Arctic Council from Norway, the Greenlandic Foreign Ministry said.
On Monday, The Guardian newspaper reported that Greenland, on behalf of Denmark, will assume the chairmanship of the Arctic Council as a sign of a reset in relations with Copenhagen amid US President Donald Trump's claims to the island.
"[Greenlandic] Minister of Foreign Affairs Vivian Motzfeldt traveled to [the Norwegian city of] Tromso to formally assume the chairmanship from Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide," the ministry said in a statement on Monday.
