Grahaa Space hopes to raise funds for future mission

Chennai, Dec 11 (UNI) The Bengaluru-based Indian space startup Grahaa Space, which is expected to see its maiden nano satellite Solaras S2 in orbit this month, is planning to raise about Rs 22 crore for its future needs, said a top company official.
The company plans to have a constellation of nano satellites.
Grahaa Space will be launching its Solaras S2 satellite on a South Korean rocket Hanbit-Nano from Alcantara Space Centre (CEA) in Brazil soon.
“Grahaa Space is currently looking to raise USD 2.5 million or about Rs 22 crores to be utilised for upcoming missions, expanding its team, and setting up a production facility,” Ramesh Kumar V, Founder and CEO, said.
Kumar, formerly with IBM, said Grahaa Space was incorporated in 2021 by him and Loganathan M, formerly with the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).
In December 2024, Manimaran, from Viskan group, joined the company as Director, while Co-Founder Loganathan resigned from the company on health grounds, Kumar said.
Queried about the company’s business model, Kumar said: “Once the technology gets demonstrated successfully, Grahaa Space intends to provide near-real-time geospatial data on demand using an advanced constellation of earth observation nano satellites.”
Continuing further, he said, the company will be targeting business-to-business (B2B), business-to-government (B2G) segments with its constellation of nano satellites.
Under the B2B segment, the potential clients would be smart city initiatives, industrial activity monitoring, and urban sprawl detection.
On the other hand, under the B2G segment, Grahaa Space will be looking at border monitoring, military reconnaissance missions, disaster and emergency response, infrastructure, e-governance, marine intelligence, and agriculture and forest monitoring.
Kumar said the total number of satellites in the constellation would be decided based on the technology demonstration missions.
“Though we have a simulation, we would be able to provide accurate information post-technology demonstration. The life span of each satellite will be at least five years,” Kumar remarked.
While Grahaa Space’s first nano satellite will be flown on a Korean rocket, Kumar said the company has signed up for use of the Indian Space Research Organisation’s (ISRO) Small Satellite Launch Vehicle (SSLV) and the Indian private rocket company Skyroot Aerospace.
According to him, Innospace had scheduled its rocket launch this year, and hence Grahaa Space signed up with the Korean company.
"The remaining two launches are happening in 2026. We are still an early-stage startup. Like every other new space startup in India, we are working on a lot of things in parallel, learning along the way, as it is new for all of us,” Kumar said.
