Gill & King win ICC Player of Month awards for February

Dubai, Mar 12 (UNI) The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Wednesday revealed the ICC Men’s and Women’s Players of the Month for February 2025 as Shubman Gill of India and Alana King of Australia.
Fresh from India’s ICC Men’s Champions Trophy triumph, Gill claims the ICC Men’s Player of the Month award after a string of superb performances with the bat in his side’s ODI series sweep over England and a stellar century in the opening victory over Bangladesh in Dubai.
Spin maestro King meanwhile becomes the third successive Australian to be named the ICC Women’s Player of the Month after inspiring their win with prolific bowling spells in the standalone Ashes Test match victory over rivals England in Melbourne.
Both players were crowned following a vote conducted among global fans registered at icc-cricket.com and a specialist panel comprising ICC Hall of Famers, former international players,
and media representatives.
Gill wins his third ICC Men’s Player of the Month accolade, overcoming fellow ICC Men’s
Champions Trophy finalist Glenn Phillips of New Zealand, and Australia’s Steve Smith.
King wins her first ICC Women’s Player of the Month award after seeing off compatriot
Annabel Sutherland and Thailand’s Thipatcha Putthawong to February’s prize.
With 406 runs during the calendar month and an average of over 100, Gill returned to the
summit of the ICC Men’s ODI Batter Rankings thanks to his runscoring feats throughout
February.
The 25-year-old began the month with three fruitful ODI contests against England, striking 87 and
60 in the two opening ODI matches before a sublime 112 in Ahmedabad sealed a commanding set
of performances and the series sweep.
With confidence high, his form continued as the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy commenced, hitting a crucial and stylish 101 not out against a spirited Bangladesh under the lights in Dubai to chase down 229 for victory and set India on course for silverware.
ICC Men’s Player of the Month for February, Shubman Gill, said: “I am elated to win the ICC Men’s Player of the Month award for February. Nothing gives me more motivation than performing with the bat and winning matches for my country."
“The lead up to the Champions Trophy 2025 was very crucial and I am glad I was able to make the most out of it. It has been a phenomenal start to the year individually as well as for us as a unit. I am looking forward to an action-packed cricketing year ahead and hope to win many more matches for India,” he added.
ICC Women’s Player of the Month, King produced a series of destructive bowling displays throughout the Ashes series down under, and concluded with a starring role as the home side won impressively in the standalone Test match in Melbourne.
Having won the toss and opting to bowl, King made inroads into the English middle order, denting
any opposition momentum with the key scalps of Sciver-Brunt, Dunkley and Wyatt-Hodge as she recorded figures of four for 45.
Then , in the second inning, with England chasing a sizeable 270 just to avoid an innings defeat, King yet again took control, removing the dangerous Tammy Beaumont before ripping through the rest of the order to register a career-best Test return of five for 53 and etch her name onto the feted honours board at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
ICC Women’s Player of the Month for February, Alana King said: “It’s been a big summer for the girls and we’re obviously really pleased to have retained the Ashes the way we did.
“I was proud to have played a role in that success and will remember that series, in particular the Test match for a long time. There’s no bigger stage than an Ashes Test on the MCG and I’m so grateful to have been a part of it,” King said.
