FTII Itanagar students refuse to begin Semester 2; allege lack of infrastructure and ‘makeshift fixes’

Itanagar, Dec 11 (UNI) Students of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Itanagar have reiterated their refusal to begin Semester 2, alleging that the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting and the Institute authorities have failed to address critical infrastructure and academic requirements despite repeated commitments over the past year.
In a detailed statement issued on late Wednesday, the students said that the situation has “remained unchanged” since their earlier communication on December 4, in which they announced their decision not to resume classes. The protest continued after a meeting on December 9 with the Vice-Chancellor of SRFTI, the Dean, HoDs and faculty members, where students claim their core demands were left unaddressed.
According to the students, the authorities proposed only temporary arrangements such as converting the library’s ground floor into a dance studio, using a CRT room as rehearsal space and turning a small room above the gym into a makeup studio. They were also informed that there would be no Preview Theatre for Semester 2 and that no clear timeline existed for completing studios, safety facilities or technical departments.
