FSSAI cracks down on adulterated milk and dairy products, launches nationwide inspection drive

New Delhi, Dec 16 (UNI) Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), the apex food regulator, on Tuesday launched a nationwide inspection drive against adulteration and misbranding of milk and milk products, including paneer and khoya.
Taking account of recent incidences of food safety violations in dairy products, State Food Safety Departments and FSSAI Regional Offices have been directed to conduct intensive inspections of premises involved in the production, storage and sale of milk and milk products. These checks will target both licensed/registered as well as unlicensed food business operators (FBOs), according to official sources in FSSAI.
The official further informed that the advisory mandates authorities to undertake traceability exercises in cases where samples are found non-conforming or suspicious patterns are detected. This, he said, is aimed at identifying the source of adulteration and uncovering illegal manufacturing units and supply chains.
