From ‘Eagles of the Republic’ to ‘Nirmalyam’: IFFK screens 72 films today

Thiruvananthapuram, Dec 13 (UNI) As many as 72 films are being screened today, Saturday, on the second day of the 30th International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK), offering cinephiles a wide spectrum of world cinema.
In the Homage section, screenings today include Nirmalyam, written and directed by M.T. Vasudevan Nair, Italian filmmaker Federico Fellini’s Oscar-winning classic 8 1⁄2, and Swedish director Tarik Saleh’s Eagles of the Republic.
One of the landmark films of the Czechoslovak New Wave, Jiri Menzel’s Oscar-winning Closely Watched Trains, is being screened at 3 pm at the New Theatre. Set during World War II under German occupation, the film narrates the story of a young man working at a railway station in Czechoslovakia.
The Cannes 2025 highlight The Mysterious Gaze of the Flamingo, directed by Diego Céspedes, is being screened at 6 pm at Sree Padmanabha Theatre. The film depicts the struggle for survival of a 12-year-old girl during a pandemic.
Kelly Reichardt’s The Mastermind, set against the backdrop of the Vietnam War, revolves around a heist, while Lynne Ramsay’s Die My Love, which explores the complexities of motherhood and postpartum depression, is being screened at 8.45 pm at Kairali Theatre.
In the International Competition section, films such as Full Plate, Black Rabbits White Rabbits, If on a Winter’s Night, The Hydra, and Before the Body are also being screened today.
Park Chan-wook’s No Other Choice is being screened at 6 pm at Nishagandhi Theatre. The film examines workplace rivalry and the relentless struggle to maintain one’s standard of living.
Once Upon a Time in Gaza, directed by Tarzan and Arab Nasser, narrating the story of a young man seeking revenge for his friend’s death in Hamas-controlled Gaza, is being screened at 3 pm at Aries Plex.
A special interaction with noted Iranian filmmaker Mohammad Rasoulof is being held at 2.30 pm at Nila Theatre.
In the World Cinema section, a variety of distinctive films, including Papa Buka, France, and Alpha, are also being presented to audiences today.
