Fritz advances into QFs after Thompson retires hurt

London, July 6 (UNI) American tennis star Taylor Fritz booked his place in the Wimbledon 2025 quarterfinals today after opponent Jordan Thompson retired due to injury just 41 minutes into their fourth-round clash.
Fritz, who had played 14 sets to get to the fourth round, faced minimal resistance from a clearly struggling Thompson, who was battling a worsening back injury that had plagued him since the start of the tournament. The Australian, visibly stiff from the outset, retired while trailing 6-1, 3-0.
Fritz, who is into his third Wimbledon quarterfinal, will face Russia's Karen Khachanov on July eight.
