Freedom fighter Etukuri Krishnamurthy, 104, continues to receive pension, a rare honour in Telugu states

Hyderabad, Dec 15 (UNI) Freedom fighter and former Revenue Department employee Etukuri Krishnamurthy has earned a rare distinction by becoming the only person in the two Telugu states to be alive and receiving a pension at the age of 104. Now in his 105th year, he is living with his son in Hyderabad.
Born on September 29, 1923, in Etukuru village of Guntur district, Krishnamurthy joined the Revenue Department at Allagadda in Kurnool district in 1948 with a monthly salary of Rs 37 and retired as a Revenue Inspector in 1978. It has been 47 years since his retirement.
During British rule, he worked in the Royal Navy and actively participated in the freedom movement. He spent 18 months in Lucknow and Lahore jails for protesting in support of the Royal Navy mutiny and also took part in the Quit India Movement, for which he was imprisoned for eight months in Guntur sub-jail.

Tamil Nadu Assembly without delivering the customary New Year address prepared
by the DMK goverment on the opening day of the session citing non-recital of National
Anthem, the Principal Opposition AIADMK and its ally, the BJP, too staged a walk out
of the Assembly on Tuesday.
