Forum slams Mizoram govt over delayed transfer of Lengpui airport to AAI

Aizawl, Aug 10 (UNI) The Lengpui Airport Forum (LAF) has criticised the Mizoram government for its slow pace in preparing for the transfer of the state’s only airport to the Airports Authority of India (AAI) and for its apparent neglect in upgrading the facility.
Lalthuamliana, one of the conveners of LAF, said that during a meeting in New Delhi on July 7 between Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma, Mizoram was instructed to send a draft agreement to the Ministry of Civil Aviation or the AAI Chairman. This was a necessary step to ensure that the matter would be forwarded to the Union Cabinet for approval. Lalthuamliana emphasised that if the state government had acted promptly, the handover of Lengpui Airport to the AAI could have been expedited, particularly by finalising the land lease agreement.
Expressing frustration over the government’s inaction, Lalthuamliana remarked that the process had been moving at a glacial pace under the leadership of Chief Minister Lalduhoma. LAF has called on the state government to take immediate action, as promised by Shah, and to pursue the matter within two months.
