Former SHO of Barhara police station gets lifer in fake encounter case

Patna, Oct 8 (UNI) A special CBI court on Tuesday awarded life imprisonment to former Station House Officer (SHO) Mukhlal Paswan of Barhara police station in Purnia district of Bihar in a fake encounter case.
Additional District and Sessions Judge of special CBI court Avinash Kumar, after hearing arguments of the defense and prosecution, pronounced the sentence on Paswan after he was found guilty. He was also slapped a fine of Rs 3.01 lakh.
Paswan was declared guilty under sections 302, 201, 193 and 182 of the Indian Penal Code(IPC).

Record 64 66 pc polling in first phase of Bihar assembly elections

Patna, Nov 6 (UNI) A record 64.66 per cent of the nearly 3.75 crore electorate exercised their franchise on Thursday, stretching across 121 seats in round one of the two-phase Bihar Assembly polls amid tight security arrangements, with the authorities describing voting as overall peaceful, barring some stray incidents.
This is the highest polling percentage in the state since the first Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in 1951, an Election Commission official said.
