Former BJD MLA Pravat Biswal joins BJP amid ongoing Seashore chit fund trial

Bhubaneswar, 12 July (UNI) Former Biju Janata Dal (BJD) MLA Pravat Ranjan Biswal on Sunday joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), ending his decades-long association with the regional party months after being expelled for alleged indiscipline.
A three-time former MLA from Cuttack-Choudwar, Biswal was formally inducted into the BJP at the party's state headquarters in Bhubaneswar in the presence of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Odisha BJP president Manmohan Samal and other senior leaders.
Biswal's induction comes against the backdrop of his ongoing prosecution in the multi-crore Seashore chit fund scam. Recently, the Orissa High Court declined to quash the criminal proceedings against him, allowing the trial in the case to continue.
