Melbourne, Jan 14 (UNI) Brazilian teenager Joao Fonseca made a sensational start to his Australian Open 2025 campaign, defeating world No.9 Andrey Rublev in straight sets during his Grand Slam debut at Melbourne Park.
Fonseca, aged 18, triumphed 7-6(1), 6-3, 7-6(5), producing an electrifying performance that left fans and commentators in awe.
The match took place on the heels of much buzz surrounding Novak Djokovic’s anniversary of his Grand Slam debut, but it was Fonseca’s star turn that stole the spotlight.

UK defends Chagos deal after Trump's "great stupidity" accusation
