Five-day-long 'Kirnostav' begins in Shree Mahalaxmi temple of Kolhapur

Kolhapur, Nov 9 (UNI) Five-day-long annual rare phenomenon, called Kirnostav (Sun-rays festival), began at Karveer Nivasini Shree Mahalaxmi temple here with the sun's rays falling directly on the presiding deity's chest and ears on the first day today.
The 'Kirnostav' festival occurrs twice in a year--from January 30 to February 3 and from November 9 to 13 every year.
In this rare and scared 'Sohala' (celestial occurrence), rays of the setting sun fall on Goddess Mahalaxmi's idol situated inside sanctum from the west (Garud Mandap). On first day, the sun's rays touched goddess' feets then next day on stomach and then on idol's face.

Norms for killing aggressive leopards, tigers to be relaxed soon: Minister Ganesh Naik

Nagpur, Dec 9 (UNI) Maharashtra Forest Minister Ganesh Naik on Tuesday said that the state government has proposed shifting highly aggressive leopards and tigers from Schedule I to Schedule II of the Wildlife Protection Act to allow for relaxed norms in eliminating animals that repeatedly attack humans.

Prohibitory order in force in Kolhapur till Dec 22

Kolhapur, Dec 9 (UNI) In order to maintain law and order in the district, a prohibitory order has been issued by the district administration under Sections 37 (1) (a) to (f) and 37 (3) of the Maharashtra Police Act 1951 from 6 am on December 10 to 12 midnight on December 22 in the entire district.

Maha govt to formulate measures to address rising stray dog attacks
