First trailer drops for Charli xcx’s drama ‘Erupcja’

Washington, Feb 11 (UNI) Singer-songwriter Charli xcx is expanding her acting portfolio with the upcoming drama ‘Erupcja’, whose first trailer was recently released, according to People.
Directed by Pete Ohs and co-written by Ohs, Jeremy O. Harris, Lena Gora, Will Madden, and Charli xcx, the film’s title, Polish for “eruption”, reflects its emotional and literal upheavals. The 33-year-old artist stars as Bethany, a woman at a turning point during a romantic getaway to Warsaw, Poland.
The trailer introduces Bethany and her soon-to-be fiancé, Rob (played by Will Madden), whose vacation is derailed after a volcanic eruption leaves them stranded. As outlined in the film’s synopsis, Bethany views the explosive event as a sign to shed her emotional baggage and reconnect with her childhood friend Nel, portrayed by Lena Gora.
“Bethany takes the explosive event as a sign to ditch her baggage, reunite with childhood friend Nel and traipse across lofts, clubs and back alleys, all the while becoming entangled in an emotional web that challenges her sense of self,” the synopsis reads, according to People.
In one moment from the trailer, Nel asks Bethany, “So what is the problem with Rob?” calling him “really nice.” Bethany responds, “Yeah, but sometimes nice is boring,” later adding, “With him, the earth doesn't shake,” as reported by the outlet.
‘Erupcja’ premiered at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival in September, where critics praised Charli xcx’s dramatic performance. The film marks another step in her transition from music to cinema.
She currently leads A24’s The Moment, an autobiographically inspired mockumentary, and has appeared in Sacrifice and 100 Nights of Hero. At the 2026 Sundance Film Festival in January, she debuted The Moment and The Gallerist, according to People. ‘Erupcja’ is slated for theatrical release on April 17.
