Firing at farmers reminds of 'Jallianwala Bagh massacre': Congress

New Delhi Feb 22 (UNI) The Congress alleged on Thursday that the government's act to use bullets against farmers protesting peacefully for their rights was a reminder of the 'Jallianwala Bagh massacre'.
Addressing a press conference at the AICC headquarters here, S Sukhpal Singh Khaira, Chairman All India Kisan Congress said that Shubhkaran Singh, associated with the farmers' protest, was shot dead on Wednesday but the Haryana government is not ready to accept this.
Accusing the government of dual standards, Khaira said, "On one hand, the government is calling the farmers for talks, and on the other hand, the police are using force and firing tear gas on them."
He urged the Bhagwant Mann government in Punjab to call an emergency special assembly session and condemn the attack on peaceful farmers by the central and Haryana governments.
He said the session is necessary as the Haryana government has intruded into Punjabi territory and killed a farmer and injured more than 200.
He alleged that no action was being taken on social media handles spreading hatred against farmers, while those of farmer leaders and people supporting the protest were being suspended.
Calling his party a true well wisher of the farmers, Khaira said that Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi have promised legal guarantee of MSP to farmers.
He appealed to all the farmer organisations and the people of the country to come forward and support the movement of the farmers.
