Finance Commission members visit Solid Waste Management plant

Tirupati, Apr 17 (UNI) The 16 th Finance Commission members visited the Municipal Corporation’s Integrated Solid Waste Management Plant and appreciated the officials concerned for the well functioning of the plant.

The Finance Commission members including Ritwik Pande, Annnie George Mathew, KK Mishra, Abhay Menon, Aditya Pant and Amita, visited the Integrated Solid Waste Management Plant, located at Tukivakam near here on Thursday. As part of their four-day AP visit, the Finance Commission members are visiting Tirupati district.

Principal Secretary, Municipal Administration and Urban Development Suresh Kumar, J Nivas, Tirupati Collector Dr. Venkateswar S and Tirupati Municipal Commissioner Maurya explained various aspects of the solid waste management, wet waste management, composting, bio-methanation plant, construction waste management and other units in the plant to the Finance Commission members.

The officials explained to the members the process of creating wealth from waste by establishing a sustainable system through this integrated solid waste management processing unit.

The Finance Commission members were explained by the officials that the dry waste generated from the wet and dry waste collected in Tirupati city is processed and sold to cement factories. The wet waste is converted into compost fertilizer and sold to the farmers and gardens and the waste generated from the market and waste collected from hotels are converted as biogas and sold.

The Officials told the Finance Commission members that every day 25 tonnes of construction waste is generated in the city. The waste is collected and is converted as sand. Every day 150 tonnes of wet garbage and 75 tonnes dry garbage are collected in the city and they are sold to the treated waste management industries.

Srikalahasti RDO Bhanu Prakash Reddy, Additional Commissioner Charant Tej Redy and Superintendent Engineer Shyam Sundar were among those who accompanied the members.

Earlier, the Finance Commission members led by Chairman Arvind Panagariya were accorded a warm welcome by Collector S Venkateswar and AP State Finance Minister Payyavula Keshav at the Renigunta airport.
