Fifty‑eight candidates file nominations for Karnataka by-polls

Bengaluru, Mar 23 (UNI) Fifty‑eight candidates have filed nomination papers for the Karnataka Assembly by-elections in Davangere South and Bagalkot constituencies, marking the start of an intense political contest ahead of polling on April 9.
The by-polls have sparked debate over dynastic politics, minority representation, and governance, with BJP and Congress locked in a battle for votes.
In Davangere South, Congress candidate Samarth Mallikarjun Shamanur, grandson of the late veteran MLA Shamanur Shivashankarappa, submitted his nomination amid protests from sections of the minority community. Critics questioned the party's decision to renominate a member of the Shamanur family.
