Fake Currency Worth Rs 9.88 Cr Seized in Mohali

Mohali, Nov 14 (UNI) Police in Mohali have uncovered a massive fake currency racket, seizing counterfeit notes with a face value of ₹9.88 crore from a Scorpio vehicle during a checkpoint operation. Officials said duplicates of discontinued ₹1,000 and ₹500 notes, along with fake ₹2,000 notes, were found stacked between layers of genuine currency.
Senior Superintendent of Police Harmandeep Singh Hans stated that two residents of Haryana have been arrested in connection with the case. The suspects were allegedly transporting cash bundles hidden inside the SUV, with real notes placed on the top and bottom to evade detection. Both men are also accused in an earlier fraud case involving ₹7 crore.
The seizure was made near the Ghaggar bridge on the old Ambala–Kalka highway, where a police team had set up a naka. When a Scorpio-N (registration HR-41-M-6974) approached the checkpoint, officers conducted a search and discovered ₹11.05 lakh in genuine cash and counterfeit notes amounting to nearly ₹9.88 crore.
