Expired medicines, foodstuff destroyed in Afghan

Kabul, July 17 (UNI) Authorities in west Afghanistan's Herat province set on fire 60 tonnes of outdated medicines and foodstuffs on Wednesday, calling on drug stores and shopkeepers to avoid selling expired items, the provincial director for quality checking of medicines and foodstuffs, Sabour Ahmad Khaleqi, said.
"The outdated medicines, poor-quality items, and foodstuffs weighing more than 60 tonnes and worth more than 35 million afghanis (about 500,000 U.S. dollars) had been collected from drug stores and shops over the past three months and were burned today," Khaleqi said, adding such a practice would continue.
Three months ago, the authorities set on fire 65 tonnes of such expired products in Herat province, the official said.
