Experts raise concern over China’s ‘Great Bend Dam’

Guwahati, Apr 8 (UNI) Global experts and policymakers voiced concerns about China’s proposed “Great Bend Dam” on the Yarlung Tsangpo River, known as the Brahmaputra in India, during a seminar organised by the Shillong think-tank Asian Confluence at NEDFi House, here in Assam
Various speakers highlighted the potential environmental, geopolitical, and security challenges posed by the 60,000 MW mega-dam project in Tibet’s Medog County.
The seminar, titled “Ensuring Water Security, Ecological Integrity, and Disaster Resilience in the Sub-Himalayan Region: The Case of the Brahmaputra,” brought together leading voices to discuss the risks associated with the project.

Record 64 66 pc polling in first phase of Bihar assembly elections

Patna, Nov 6 (UNI) A record 64.66 per cent of the nearly 3.75 crore electorate exercised their franchise on Thursday, stretching across 121 seats in round one of the two-phase Bihar Assembly polls amid tight security arrangements, with the authorities describing voting as overall peaceful, barring some stray incidents.
This is the highest polling percentage in the state since the first Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in 1951, an Election Commission official said.

AMWJU & EGM serves legal notice to PUCL over ‘Defamatory’ report

Imphal, Nov 6 (UNI) The All Manipur Working Journalists’ union (AMWJU) and Editors Guild Manipur have served a legal notice to the People’s union for Civil Liberties (PUCL), demanding the immediate withdrawal of what it described as a “baseless and defamatory” report that allegedly maligns the image of the journalists’ body.
