Eviction drive in Dhubri for thermal power project faces stiff opposition as locals pelt stones at police

Guwahati, July 8 (UNI) The Dhubri district administration today faced stiff opposition from the locals who tried to stop an eviction drive by pelting stones at excavator machines and against the police and district administration officials.
The incident took place at Charua Bakra area under Chapar in Dhubri district where the administration sought to clear an illegal encroachment on approximately 3,500 bighas of land.
Hundreds of people came out on the streets as excavators and backhoe machines arrived in the areas at Charuwa Bakra, Chirakuta and Santoshpur villages and attacked the excavators and other machineries with pelting of stones and bricks against the officials and police personnel who had gone to clear the government land of illegal encroachment.

Imphal, July 11 UNI : A few abandoned houses of residents belonging to the Meitei community near a security encampment at a village in Imphal West district were burnt on Saturday by a mob of Kuki miscreants evoking wide spread condemnations.
Two persons were apprehended for their alleged involvement in the incident, inviting condemnation from Chief Minister Y Khemchand, his predecessor N Biren and others.
