Escaping police custody, wanted criminal dies at Jammu hospital

Jammu, April 22 (UNI) A notorious criminal died here at a hospital due to serious injuries he suffered while trying to escape the police custody.
Police on Tuesday said that a police team from Jammu went to Baba Batala, Amritsar in Punjab to round up wanted persons with the help of Punjab Police.
The team arrested Mustaq Ali alias Raj Ali alias Bacchu Don of Kikri Morh, Bari Brahama and one more accused wanted in a case.
Both were wanted in many criminal cases. The police team along with the accused, while returning from Amritsar and moving towards Jammu, halted the vehicle as the accused wanted to relieve himself, police said.
They said that as soon as the accused stepped out, they attacked the police personnel and tried to snatch their service weapons to escape from the police custody.
However, Mushtaq Ali alias Bacchu Don fell on the road and received grievous injuries. Four police personnel also suffered minor injuries during the incident.
The injured accused was immediately rushed to the Government Medical College and Hospital Jammu for treatment, where doctors declared him as dead.
"All required legal proceedings have been initiated and a case registered under relevant sections at Police Station Bishnah. Further investigation is going on," said the police.
The police have, however, requested the Jammu district magistrate to form a board of doctors for a postmortem of the deceased and conduct necessary inquiry into the matter.
