Javed Akhtar completes two film scripts, plans production in near future

Patna, April 8 (UNI) Veteran lyricist and screenwriter Javed Akhtar has revealed that he has completed scripts for two films, with production expected to begin in the near future.
Akhtar spoke about his book "Seepiyaan" at the closing ceremony of the "Kitaab Utsav" held in Patna on Tuesday night. In this book, Javed Akhtar has explained in simple language selected couplets written by several poets, including Kabir, Tulsi and Rahim.
Reflecting on his cinematic journey spanning more than five decades, Akhtar recalled beginning his career in the 1970s and forming the iconic partnership with Salim Khan, he wrote stories and screenplays for several landmark films, including "Sholay", "Deewar", "Zanjeer", "Sita Aur Geeta", "Trishul", "Don", "Kranti", "Shakti", "Andaz" and "Mr. India".
The superhit duo separated after the film "Mr. India" in 1987. Even after this, Akhtar continued to write dialogues and stories for films. Javed Akhtar has not written the script of any film for a long time.
He revealed that he has recently written the scripts for two films, and work on them will begin soon. He explained that he left the project after writing the script for his son Farhan Akhtar's film "Lakshya", released in 2004. He added that during the COVID-19 pandemic, he began working on the scripts for two films, which have now been completed.
He added that he will narrate the scripts to his two children, filmmakers Farhan and Zoya Akhtar. If they like the scripts, they will soon be made into films. He added jokingly that if his children don't like the scripts, he will approach other producers and ask them to make films based on their scripts.
He began his career as a lyricist in 1981 with producer-director Yash Chopra's timeless film "Silsila". His songs 'Dekha Ek Khwaab To Silsila Hue' and 'Yeh Kahan Aa Gaye Hum...' from the film became very popular with listeners. Over the years, he penned numerous acclaimed songs, though he now writes less frequently.
Akhtar stated that today's songs lack depth. He stated that he has already accomplished considerable work as a lyricist, adding that the current circumstances are not favorable to him, which is why he avoids films.
Referring to vulgar songs like 'Chole Ke Peeche Kya Hai' and 'Sarkaai Lo Khatiya Jaada Lage,' he said that in the 1990s, he received offers to write such songs for several big-budget films, but he refused. He stressed that none of the songs he wrote during his career contained obscene language.
