Spielberg returns to sci-fi with ‘Disclosure Day,’ trailer out

Washington, Dec 17 (UNI) The makers have released the first trailer of Steven Spielberg’s upcoming film ‘Disclosure Day’. The science-fiction thriller stars Emily Blunt and Josh O’Connor in the lead roles.
Joining them are Colin Firth, Eve Hewson, Colman Domingo, Wyatt Russell, and Henry Lloyd-Hughes in key roles. Spielberg developed the story alongside screenwriter David Koepp, who has previously collaborated with the director on hits like Jurassic Park, ‘Jurassic Park: The Lost World,’ War of the Worlds, and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.
The film’s logline reads, “If you found out we weren’t alone, if someone showed you, proved it to you, would that frighten you? This summer, the truth belongs to seven billion people. We are coming close to Disclosure Day,” according to Variety.
The trailer shows Blunt as a meteorologist suddenly overwhelmed by a mysterious extraterrestrial force while delivering a live weather report, while O’Connor plays a man determined to reveal the existence of alien life to the world.
Viewers also catch glimpses of crop circles, car chases, strange animals, and other hints of life beyond Earth. Universal Pictures shared the trailer on their Instagram handle.
‘Disclosure Day’ marks Spielberg’s 37th directorial venture since his 1964 partially lost debut, Firelight, which was also a science-fiction film. Over the years, Spielberg has returned to the genre in films such as Close Encounters of the Third Kind, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, Jurassic Park, War of the Worlds, Minority Report, A.I. Artificial Intelligence, and Ready Player One.
His films have collectively grossed over USD 10 billion worldwide, and he has received 23 Academy Award nominations, winning three, including Best Director for Schindler’s List (1993) and Saving Private Ryan (1998).
Spielberg’s most recent project, 2023’s semi-autobiographical The Fabelmans, earned USD 45 million at the box office and received seven Oscar nominations, including Best Picture.
‘Disclosure Day’ is produced by Spielberg and Kristie Macosko Krieger under Amblin Entertainment and is scheduled for theatrical release on June 12, 2026.
