Tannishtha Chatterjee's 'Full Plate' to open Indian Film Festival of Sydney

Mumbai, Sept 16 (UNI) Sydney is poised for a cinematic celebration this October as the Indian Film Festival of Sydney makes its return, with Tannishtha Chatterjee's "Full Plate" selected as the opening night feature.
The three-day event, running from October 9 to October 11, will engage Sydney audiences with the best of Indian cinema and stories. The festival is organised by Mitu Bhowmick Lange AM, who is also the founder of the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne.
This year's Sydney edition will open with actress-filmmaker Tannishtha Chatterjee's film Full Plate, produced by Ashutosh Goswami and Anup Chitnis.
The film stars Kirti Kulhari in the lead role, alongside Sharib Hashmi, Monica Dogra and Indranil Sengupta in key roles. Having recently premiered at the Busan International Film Festival 2025, "Full Plate" tells the tale of a Muslim housewife in Mumbai who, following her husband's accident, must enter the workforce to manage the household. The ensuing disruption challenges her husband's sense of security while catalysing her own evolution and self-realisation.
Reflecting on the honour of opening the festival, Chatterjee said: “In the middle of one of the hardest chapters of my life, it meant everything to know that stories still matter. This film was born out of struggle, grit and hope, and sharing it with the Sydney audience feels like bringing the journey full circle.”
Festival director Mitu Bhowmick Lange AM added: “There is something deeply resonant about opening with Full Plate. Tannishtha’s courage, her determination to tell this story despite overwhelming odds, reflects exactly why Indian cinema matters—because it does more than entertain, it reveals, it heals, it challenges. We are honoured to welcome Sydney audiences back with this film and with three days of cinema that probe, celebrate and uplift.”
