Meghalaya to draft comprehensive ‘Film Policy’

Shillong, May 22 (UNI) Meghalaya will draft a comprehensive ‘Film Policy’ to facilitate distribution of films at the state, national and international levels, thereby promoting growth of film industry in the state, announced Vijay Kumar Mantri, commissioner and secretary, Information & Public Relations department, here on Wednesday.
Additionally, initiatives to promote film culture among citizens by forming Film Clubs in schools and colleges would also be undertaken, he said during a meeting with prominent filmmakers of the state.
He said that the IPR department will draft a comprehensive Film Policy tailored to address issues faced by local filmmakers.
Mantri encouraged filmmakers to unite under one association to streamline and gave access to government schemes and initiatives provided from the Information and Broadcasting Ministry and other agencies.
“Forming a Film Society will also provide a platform for filmmakers to address common challenges collectively,” he underscored.
Mantri also emphasised on importance of a Single Window Agency in promoting the film industry, through which the government aims to simplify administrative processes for filmmakers, making it easier for them to navigate regulations with different authorities.
He said that the government will also make an effort to promote local films through various channels, including establishment of theatres or cinema halls dedicated to screening local films.
Additionally, development of an OTT (Over the Top) platform, specifically for local filmmakers will expand their viewership, he pointed out.
Mantri stressed on significance of raising awareness and conducting publicity campaigns prior to the release of films.
This positive approach aims to enhance visibility and success of local film projects, he added.
