El Nino phenomenon raises drought, famine concerns in Madagascar - UN

United Nations, Feb 2 (UNI) The effects of the El Nino climate pattern, combined with the climate crisis, are likely to lead to extreme weather events in Madagascar, causing a food crisis in the country, the United Nations warned on Friday.

"In recent years, Madagascar has been hit by unprecedented cyclones and experienced the most severe drought in four decades, causing widespread hunger and pushing thousands into near-famine conditions," the UN said in a statement.
