Eight women, 2 kids among 21 killed, 54 injured in Jammu road mishap

Jammu, May 30 (UNI) At least 21 pilgrims,pilgrims, including eight women and two children,children, were killed and 54 suffered injuries on Thursday afternoon when a bus ferrying them met with an accident near Kalidhar inthe Akhnoor the Akhnoor area here in the city outskirts.
Police said that a bus bearing registration number UP81CT-4058 plunged into the gorgeUP81CT-4058 plunged into the gorgeplunged into the gorge this plunged into the gorge this afternoon at about 12:35 pm, killing 21 passengers and injuring 54.
The bus was carrying pilgrims from Kurukshetra (Haryana) towards Shiv Khori in the Pouni area ofthe Reasi the Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir via Bhambla.
The accident took place at Tungi-Morh in the Chowki Chora belt near Akhnoor when the driver tried to negotiate a sharp turn, said police.
Soon after receiving the information, police launched a rescue operation and shifted the injured to aa nearby hospital,, where they were referred to the Government Medical College and Hospital.
President Droupadi Murmu also expressed grief over the incident.
Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has expressed anguish at the loss of lives in the accident.
In a condolence message, Sinha said, “The bus accident in Akhnoor is heartbreaking. heartbreaking. I condole the loss of lives and pray to the AlmightyAlmighty to give the bereaved families the strength to bear the irreparable loss.I am praying I am praying for a speedy recovery forfor the injured. The administration is providing all possible assistance to the bereaved families and is also extending medical facilities to those who have been injured.”
Sinha has announced an ex-gratia of Rs. 5 lakhlakh to be given to the next of kin of each deceased and Rs50,000 for those injured in the tragic bus accident in Akhnoor, Jammu.
Chairman of the Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP), Ghulam Nabi Azad, expressed deep sorrow over the tragic bus accident in Akhnoor, Jammu. The unfortunate incident claimed 21 lives and left 69 individuals injured.
Out of the 21 deceased (male-10male-10, female-8female-8, children-2children-2) (all unidentified), one identified herself as Dharampati, 42, wife of Radhay Shyam, a resident of Aligarh, UP.
