EFTA Business Summit: Swiss and EFTA firms eye long term growth in TN

Chennai, Oct 8 (UNI) The Southern India Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SICCI) in collaboration with Guidance Tamil Nadu organised the Tamil Nadu EFTA Business Summit here today
by partnering with the Swiss-Indian Chamber of Commerce in which /Swiss and EFTA firms eyed for long term growtn in tn.
The event was graced by Industries Minister Dr.TRB Rajaa, along with Ms. Maya Tissafi, Ambassador of Switzerland to India and Bhutan,
Mr. Benedikt Höskuldsson, Ambassador of Iceland to India, Dr. Niklaus-Samuel Gugger MP, Member, Swiss National Council and President, Switzerland–India Parliamentary Friendship Group
Ms. May-Elin Stener, Ambassador of Norway to India, Sri Lanka and Bhutan and Mr. V. Arun Roy, Secretary, TN Industries, Investment Promotion Commerce Department.
Senior dignitaries, including Mr. Paul Arun, Senior Vice President, Guidance Tamil Nadu; Mr. Vinod Solomon, Secretary General, SICCI; Mr. Sanjay Madhavan, Honorary Consul of Switzerland, Tamil Nadu and Mr. Satish Rao, National President, SICC, also participated, alongside senior representatives from Swiss enterprises, industry associations, and state government officials.
The summit laid the groundwork for deeper investment engagement and partnerships in Tamil Nadu’s priority sectors under the
India–EFTA Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA). The summit aims to build on the growing interest for potential
Swiss investment in India, attract investments, and create one million jobs across the country.
A key panel discussion focused on leveraging TEPA as a catalyst for long-term investment flows and business collaborations between Switzerland and Tamil Nadu.
The agreement offers an enhanced investment window of up to ten years, providing Swiss companies with a stable framework for sustained engagement in high-growth sectors such as precision engineering, renewable energy, life sciences, electronics, and food processing.
Switzerland remains Tamil Nadu’s largest trade partner among EFTA member states and plays a pivotal role in innovation, precision manufacturing, and financial services.
According to the Swiss Business Mapping 2025 report by the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO), over 328 Swiss companies currently operate in India, employing more than 146,000 people, with Tamil Nadu emerging as one of the key destinations for Swiss investment.
The state continues to strengthen its position as a preferred hub for foreign investors, having recorded Rs 1.08 lakh crore in FDI inflows in 2024 (Source: CEIC Data).
Speaking at the summit, Mr. Satish Rao said “Switzerland’s collaboration with Tamil Nadu reflects a shared commitment to innovation, quality, and sustainability. The TEPA agreement will further accelerate Swiss investments into Tamil Nadu’s focus sectors, deepening business-to-business linkages and fostering new opportunities for co-manufacturing, research, and technology exchange.”
Through active engagement, SICC has played a key role in securing USD 2.1 billion investment commitments, spanning across various sectors.
The SICC believes this agreement will catalyze deepening Indo-Swiss collaboration and attract further investments.

Air passenger growth to be at 4 3 per cent in FY26: CARE Ratings

Chennai, Nov 12 (UNI) Credit rating agency CARE Ratings expects lower growth of 4.3 percent in the air traffic passengers numbers this fiscal. In its latest report CARE Ratings said it anticipates passenger traffic to reach about 430 million passengers in FY26, revised from its earlier estimate 445 million passengers.
