New Delhi, Apr 24 (UNI) A Parliamentary panel on Labour has said all charitable, social and philanthropic institutions should not be excluded from the purview of the definition of Industry despite some entities which have established big business empires engaging thousands of workers.
'Being not impressed with the Ministry's contention for excluding all charitable, social and philanthropic institutions from the purview of the definition of Industry despite some such institutions including educational entities which have established big business empires engaging thousands of workers, the Committee has exhorted the Ministry to revisit the provisions and make suitable amendments therein with particular reference to the Educational Institutions managed by Charitable Trusts but indulging in profit-making business ventures,' said the the Eighth Report on 'The Industrial Relations Code, 2019' pertaining to the Ministry of Labour and Employment, presented to Speaker Om Birla on Thursday.
With chairperson Bhartruhari Mahtab, the Standing Committee on Labour included members Varun Gandhi, Ganesh Singh, Bhola Singh, K Subbarayan from the Lok Sabha and Oscar Fernandes, Elamaram Kareem, Dr Raghunath Mohapatra, Dr Banda Prakash and Ms Dola Sen from the Rajya Sabha.
