Ed Sheeran's surprise street performance in India disrupted by police

Bengaluru, Feb 10 (UNI) British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran was forced to cut short a surprise street performance in Bengaluru after local police abruptly shut it down on February nine.
The Grammy winning artiste, known for his global hits, was entertaining a gathered crowd with an acoustic rendition of "Shape of You" when a police officer intervened, disconnecting his microphone and bringing the performance to an abrupt halt.
Unlike typical impromptu street busking, Sheeran (33), later clarified on Instagram that the event had been pre-approved by authorities. "We had permission to busk btw, hence us playing in that exact spot, was planned out before, it wasn't just us randomly turning up," he wrote. "All good though," he continued, adding, "See ya at the show tonight x."
Sheeran, dressed casually in shorts, a T-shirt and sunglasses, had been serenading a lively crowd on Church Street, according to a report by PEOPLE.
However, the performance took an unexpected turn when a uniformed officer approached and unplugged the microphone, ignoring attempts by two men to intervene.
In another video, Sheeran can be heard telling the crowd, “Everyone, we had permission to do this, but this policeman is shutting it down.”
Although the performance was cut short, fans expressed excitement and admiration for the artiste's street-side performance. One spectator wrote on X, "Went for a casual walk on Church Street and stumbled upon Ed Sheeran performing live. What a city!"
Sheeran, who is in the middle of an international leg of his Mathematics tour, performed a pair of shows at NICE Grounds in the southern Indian city of Bengaluru on Saturday, Feb 8, and Sunday, Feb 9.
