ED raids premises linked to Madan Mitra in alleged Bengal municipal recruitment scam, MLA being quizzed

Kolkata, June 13 (UNI) Multiple teams of the Enforcement Directorate (ED), accompanied by Central forces, on Saturday conducted searches at eight premises linked to Trinamool Congress MLA and former state minister Madan Mitra as part of its probe into the alleged municipal recruitment scam in West Bengal.
The anti-money laundering agency carried out the searches at locations associated with the Kamarhati MLA in connection with allegations that appointments in seven municipal bodies were secured in exchange for money and gold. Sources said ED officials searched the MLA's residences in Bhowanipore, Joka, Belgharia, and Dakshineswar. It is understood that the raid on Mitra's home followed information obtained from an individual Ayan Sil, who was arrested on March 20, 2023.
Sil's company faces allegations of corruption regarding recruitment in the seven municipalities across the state, including the Kamarhati Municipality. It is alleged to have facilitated recruitment for various posts — such as Group-D staff and typists — in these municipalities, handling tasks like printing OMR sheets and organising interview processes. Allegations suggest that corruption amounting to crores of rupees took place during the recruitment of these lower-level municipal employees.
