EC orders suspension of Tarn Taran SSP Ahead of bypoll, Amritsar CP given additional charge

Chandigarh, Nov 8 (UNI) The Election Commission of India (ECI) has suspended Tarn Taran Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Dr. Ravjot Kaur Grewal, just three days before the assembly by-election in the district.
Dr. Grewal, who took charge only two months ago as the district’s first woman SSP, has been replaced by Amritsar Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar (IPS), who will hold the additional charge of SSP Tarn Taran.
The action came shortly after the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) lodged a formal complaint with Punjab’s Chief Electoral Officer, alleging that SSP Grewal was acting under the influence of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). SAD leaders accused her of registering false cases and detaining Akali workers to benefit the ruling party ahead of the polls.
